The “Great Goddess” figures have been part of our history since the development of civilization in 7000 to 6500 B.C.E. (Gimbutas). The age of the Paleolithic Venus is proven through carbon dating, and has extended around the world. Symbols and totems begin the communication of culture, predating the written language. The ritual of folklore in oral tradition, is equally expressed by the creation of ancient visual art. The regeneration of Goddess totems and vulvic symbols in current culture work to highlight our desire to reconnect to our bodies and the great mystery of our existence.
Venus Cult is the recalling of an ancient practice, reapplied to contemporary perspective. I strive to make the Venuses accessible and potent, pushing toward mythic alien animalistic aesthetic. Each Venus is hand sculpted, detailed and uniquely intentional. Hundreds of Venuses are scattered on people’s altars, kitchens and bookshelves around the world.
