The “Great Goddess” figures have been part of our history since the development of civilization in 7000 to 6500 B.C.E. (Gimbutas). The age of the Paleolithic Venus is proven through carbon dating, and has extended around the world. Symbols and totems begin the communication of culture, predating the written language. The ritual of folklore in oral tradition, is equally expressed by the creation of ancient visual art. The regeneration of Goddess totems and vulvic symbols in current culture work to highlight our desire to reconnect to our bodies and the mystery of our existence.
Venus Cult.ure is the recalling of an ancient practice, reapplied with a contemporary perspective. I work to make the Venuses accessible and potent, pushing a mythic alien animalistic aesthetic. Each Venus is hand sculpted, detailed and uniquely intentional. Over 1500 of my Venus creations are in use on people’s altars, in their pockets, on their kitchen counters and tucked in their bookshelves around the world!
