During my time with the Hive Collective, I lead over 20 artists to create two large Temples and three installations from 2019-2023. Every single piece of fabric and clothing used in the handwoven walls were donated or recycled salvage. I collected hundreds of pounds of raw weaving materials from women-led upcycle fabric stores, as well as bulk resale, and salvage. This action connects us to literal generational material in our environment. The act of reuse is important not just for visual authenticity, but to utilize corporate fashion waste as a provable art medium.
The Bee Divine Hive, Burning Man 2019, Art Grant Winner was a 26ft wide 14ft tall hexagonal space with a central stage, dripping with lace, women’s dresses and soft walls made of large weavings. Each dress has a history, gifted by women at different stages of life.
Temple of Sacred Being, Love Burn Miami 2023, crowd funded and was a 25ft tall bamboo pyramid, with eight, 10 ft tall triangular woven grottos, containing altars, that are then utilized by ritual performers through the night.
